Havdyn AS designs and develops industrial products for the marine and offshore industries. The company was founded by Erlend Kvalsund and draws on a career of product development, engineering plastics, and more than a decade in ship design — and, just as essentially, on a close network of trusted collaborators across engineering, design, and manufacturing.

Havdyn is based on the coast of Sunnmøre, within a maritime industrial cluster where the common motto is “we compete when we have to — we collaborate when we can”. The company stays close to its partners.

Etymology

A formal portrait of the all-men’s Havdyn choir from Fosnavåg, circa 1960. A second portrait of the Havdyn choir from Fosnavåg, circa 1960. A third portrait of the Havdyn choir from Fosnavåg, circa 1960.

The name Havdyn combines two Norwegian words: hav (sea) and dyn, an old word for a deep, resonant roar. It was coined about a century ago in Fosnavåg, on the coast of Sunnmøre, as the name of an all-men’s choir directed by my great-grandfather Arne on my mother’s side — and accompanied by my grandfather Leonard on my father’s side. A small tribute, and a fitting name for work tied to the sea.

— Erlend Kvalsund, Havdyn AS
